“Cool Globes” exhibit promotes greener earth

balboaparkThis Sunday I was pleasantly surprised to find a public art exhibit of “Cool Globes” scattered throughout Balboa Park. Cool Globes is a public art exhibit giving people simple solutions on how to stop global warming. Local, national and international artists, as well as school children designed the globes using a variety of materials to transform a plain white sphere to create awareness and provoke discussion about a potential solution to global warming. Each globe is five feet in diameter, seven-and-one-half feet tall and weighs 2,300 pounds. The first exhibit was in Chicago and then travelled to Wahington D.C., San Francisco, San Diego and they plan to be in Los Angeles and London by summer 2009.

Here are some of my favorites from Balboa Park.

clayton“The choice is in your hands” by Paula Clayton

gista“Watching the Process” by David Gista

levin“Reuse” by Mitch Levin

I’m not sure how these artists were chosen for the exhibit, but what a fun project! I also wonder where these artists worked on these big mamas and how they transported them.
